Uganda
Entebbe, Masindi, Budongo, Kibale, Queen Elizabeth, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Lake Mburo National Parks
One of the jewels of Africa, Uganda offers a rich variety of luxuriant tropical habitats and a
wealth of wildlife. No other African country matches the range of habitats from the impressive Rift
Valley and huge lakes (really inland seas) to rolling savannas, pristine rainforests and snow-clad mountains
(the Ruwenzori Mountains are the highest in Africa). All this plus nearly 1,300 different birds and over 300 species
of mammals, many in some of the least spoiled national parks the continent can offer, makes Uganda one of the most sought
after wildlife holiday destinations.
This small country (about the same size as Britain) is home to some spectacular wildlife, including the huge and almost pre-historic
looking Shoebill and the elusive African Finfoot (seemingly half grebe and half duck). As may be expected, animals too are plentiful
and of an amazing total of 11 species of primates we should hope to see the wonderful Mountain Gorillas as well as Black
and White Colobus and, with luck, find a family group of Chimpanzees.
Other mammals we should encounter, possibly from the
water-borne safari on the Kazinga Channel between Lakes George and Edward, include lions, leopard, crocodile, hippopotamus
and a host of antelopes including Oribi, Bohor Reedbuck and Burchell's Zebra as well as the shy but strangely beautiful
Giant Forest Hog. These, together with a rich list of endemic forest birds and African specialities such as ostriches,
bustards, turacos, bee-eaters and a host of sunbirds, make this a trip that is ideally suited to both first time and
experienced African visitors.
As with our other destinations in Africa this tour is run at a gentle pace, allowing time to get to know the huge variety of birds and animals and soak up the wonderful experience that Uganda provides. The aim of the tour is enjoyment in a relaxed and easy style in a friendly, peaceful country that has endured many years of political instability but is now enjoying unprecedented growth. Accommodation throughout the holiday is aimed at being a balance between comfort and location, offering a simple but comfortable blend of good food, cool drinks and wildlife literally on the doorstep. All in all our holiday offers some superb habitats and landscapes for all lovers of nature and bird and animal watchers in particular.
