Cancer Appeal

Back in October, on the last day our group was on St Helena, it was Carnival. What fun! The only trouble was that my clients didn't want to dress up. We had thought to go as the Island Holidays Birdies - a Wirebird, a Masked Booby, a Common Noddy and a Fairy Tern - but costumes proved to be a bit too challenging, as did the length of the parade so instead we just joined in all the fun. The purpose of the carnival, as well as having fun, was to raise funds to help families coping with cancer. It's bad enough at the best of times, but for the Saints (as the residents of the island are known) it's even worse. They have to go to Cape Town for treatment and only the costs of the patient him or herself are covered - any relatives going with them have to find their own fare on the Royal Mail Ship and accommodation in Cape Town.

If anyone out there would like to make a donation to the Carnival funds for this specific purpose, you can send a cheque to Island Holidays Plus Conservation Fund and state that it is for the St Helena cancer appeal. As a well known supermarket says, "every little helps".
